I have a maxi swim coverup from my mom. She got it in Hawaii on her honeymoon with my dad in 1974. She also brought me (then almost 5) a bikini and coverup dress that my DD is wearing (she’s also 5 now). I wore this maxi swim coverup – it has big long neck ties – twisted and wrapped over a tee shirt in the Caymans, a la polynesian style. But then I cut it down to dress length and kept the bottom as a short wrap. But now i’d like it to be maxi again, but retain the other parts. Enter in my convertible maxi. I am going to (tonight!) sew buttonholes in the top of the short wrap, and buttons to the outside hem of the shorter dress. Voila, maxi, and yet, a dress and a coverup.
I’ve decided that vertical buttonholes will be best, they’ll not pull down so much. Off to the sewing machine!
