Flowers are in

So I have to dig out my Fabric Flowers book and make some. A coral one for the coral jacket (with some black or plaid added), fun plaid wool flowers for the nursing sweater set. On that subject, I’ve decided to do something a bit different – it’ll be a sweatercoat length, as planned, from the aubergine sweater knit. But instead of a matching underlay, I’m going to use a contrasting fabric, possibly a print, for the underlay! I think that’ll be more modern. I may even cut into one of the CJ fabrics (I don’t need much, but I’ll check the pattern layout first).

Oh sewing has been SUCH fun lately, the past year and a half.I don’t think I’ve EVER had as much fun sewing as I have this year. I’m not sure why, really, maybe it’s that I’m sewing more, or that I’m getting better at it. But I just can’t wait to get back to sewing! For many, many years, I thought about, but didn’t sew. And now, I am!

My big push this winter is to draft patterns. I got a download of my software manual (which went missing when we packed up the baby’s room when I was pregnant!) and am going to print out a notebook copy, and start drafting patterns of my own again. And then, from there, fit is going to be my key issue – I’d like to get a block/sloper drafted so I can lay it across all of my commercial patterns and alter those easier.
