I’m halfway through the trouser pants at the 2-hour mark on construction. I have to mark on the traced pattern a new hip curve, because mine isn’t as curvy as the pattern is! And that will make the next time a bit faster to sew. But I am VERY pleased to report my invisible zipper is, indeed, invisible! In fact, it’s my first actual invisible one, ever, (there have been lots of visible invisible zippers) and the trick was to use the standard A split foot, NOT a zipper foot. The zipper teeth ran just inside of the lip of the standard foot, and the needle along that little groove that it’s supposed to. It’s lovely. You totally cannot see the zipper AT ALL.
Tonight, once the babe goes to bed, I’ll finish up – skinny up the hips, mark and press the hem and hand-sew the hem (they’re wool dress pants). Then, I’ll work on on the Princess Wrap top, long sleeved, and after that the Burda wide leg pants – also with an invisible back zipper (it came out so well, I have to do it again).
The plan is to decide, after the other pants are made, which of the two patterns is worthy of the Italian windowpane wool. And get those cut, though I am not planning to sew the windowpane wool this weekend.
