Today I took out all my fabric, organized them roughly into capsules (where I could, a few are still pretty thin). I tried to think of fall sewing – since I mainly have fall stuff in my stash anyway. But it helped me understand (and see) that I have a lot of neutrals – gray, black, brown, tan – and not a lot of prints or colors. So when I visit Christine Jonson this week, I plan to buy some prints and colors.
I also took all the CJ patterns out, and like the Vogue Elements, I put them together, in one spot. Because that’s more or less how I like to sew and see them organized. When I lost my hard drive, I lost my pattern photos, so I have to think about doing that again sometime. I was able to organize the stash in one hour, while the baby was sleeping (like I said, I was efficient, but they aren’t the best capsules ever). Some, I was like, well, here’s THIS fabric, and here’s THAT fabric and they sort of coordinate…but there are a few oddities like polarfleece with a wool jersey and a graphic print slinky….
Okay, I could see how that would work, maybe a swing jacket in the fleece, wool jersey pants and a Jalie or CJ knit tee.
But nevertheless, there were some gaps. But I’m glad I did it. I think it will help me think of sewing coordinates, not just one up things.
My commitment is at least one garment per month, if not two. So far, August is just a baby sling, but there is still time this week to sew a BWoF tunic and finish the shorts I started.
