It’s a sewing summer weekend!

Independence day – I love how we celebrate. Some countries celebrate with large military displays of prowess – marching soldiers. Here? We fire up the barbecue, head out on long weekends to cabins from coast to coast, and eat a lot of potato salad. Oh sure, we do fire off mortar rounds….in the form of fireworks.

So this weekend I am taking up all summer sewing. I brought white muslin to make three items – a maxi dress for myself (with nursing access), a romper for the baby and a skirt for my Peanut. I will then tie dye them when I get home next week in some sophisticated colors. Baby boy is getting some surfboard appliques on his, too. I’m still designing them.

I’m also bringing up my Laura bag pattern to sew a travel bag for my mom, who wants a stylish roomy tote to take to Scotland at the end of July. She’s going with friends she met on the internet. Heh! You go, mom! (In all deference to those that think she should take greater caution – she has talked with these ladies on Skype, and on the phone, so she knows who they are.)

It’s gonna be a fun weekend. Beach. Baby. Running. Biking. Sewing. Sailing. Mmmm, grilling, roasting marshmallows. Yeah. It’s the thing we do on independence day. Happy weekend sewing everyone!
