Make Nine 2025 is a popular challenge among sewists each year – we all decide we’re going to make nine garments or items (I think the 9 comes from the Instagram grid style but I don’t recall) in a particular year.
Our local sewing store, Seams Sewing and Mercantile (East Lansing, MI and Kalamazoo, MI) is hosting a challenge – make 8 from their fabrics and they’ll give you the fabric for your 9th, on the house! I mean you know I have about a quarter of my stash from Seams so yes, I’m in. I even challenged myself to make PATTERNS from ones I’d gotten at Seams (although TBH I did add one in there that was vintage.)
Top row: The Nikko Top (both with and without long sleeves). I’ve made this several times before. It’s a fast and successful sew. I have some floral on pale mint green for this, as well as dark purple rayon/lycra fabric. Remy Raglan. This will be new for me, but it’s widely popular and I have some dark teal double gauze for this. Emerald Top and Dress, top version. I am sure I have some fabric I can use for this in my stash but if not, my LFS will be happy to help me!
Second row: the Mile End sweatshirt in a soft mint green sweatshirting. The Pleat Pant in a gray on gray zigzag print rayon fabric. The Ann Normandy Wide Leg in coral linen/cotton.
Third row: The Augusta dress in linen, which probably will be my Seams gift fabric, the Wiksten Unfolding in a mint and teal abstract print linen, and top, cropped pants and shorts out of a vintage pattern, all in knits from Seams (black, white, and also mixed remnants of other projects I’ve sewn from Seams fabrics.)
My color palette is mint/teal/gray/coral/white and black. These are all things I have in my fabric stash right now (and pattern stash.) So this is a stash busting AND Make Nine AND local fabric store challenge. I’ll probably also do some of these for me-made-May too! I have one additional project, a color blocked rayon print for the Ruby top, which incorporates all of these colors.
I also swatched these fabrics using my downloadable Make Nine planner. You can get that for free here: Make Nine Planner
