Sewing pattern review of ME2138 seamed sweatshirt and ME 2033 barrel leg pants

I sewed the ME 2138 sweatshirt recently and love it. I’ll share my review, tips for sizing and alternate ideas for color blocking for this fun pattern. I also sewed ME 2033 barrel leg pants and love them (they are the most worn pants in my closet!) The sewing pattern review of ME2138 seamed sweatshirt and ME 2033 barrel leg pants is here:

Know Me 2138 is a sweatshirt (cropped), and wide leg pants pattern featuring seaming and paneling on both pieces. The top has a ‘corset’ seaming style which is accented with piping (or bias tape as I have 1 million miles of it in my stash), or you can make it with lace, ruffle or even no trim at all. The pants feature a side panel (perfect for color blocking) with an integrated pocket with trim or no trim, wide leg elastic waist pants (who doesn’t love those?!)

I have already finished the top and thought, why am I not enjoying this, while I finish up the pants, so I did. Today’s pairing is with my oft-worn KnowMe2033 barrel leg “wave set” pants. And, for the first time, sandals! But just for one day.

A pro tip – someone else online said that they made the sweatshirt and found it too short – I am short waisted by design, and I made a size up (an 18 sewing pattern size) in this, so please measure the back pattern piece (taking into account there’s a hem band too) before you sew it. It is shown as cropped in the pattern envelope for sure.

The barrel leg pants I really should have drawn between the size lines as I made a size 14 in these (sized down 1 size) and still took in the waist on the size 10 elastic length. I wish I’ve had at least CUT a 12 and then sized the elastic to the 10 size in the barrel leg pants for a better fit. But fortunately I love this pattern and am making a pair in dark storm French terry with raspberry wave accent panels. I plan a bateau neck French terry in the same berry for a top. The top that comes with it is fun, though I had to alter the width of the back square neckline to be smaller – the top tends to want to slide off my shoulders and maybe my posture is straighter because tightening up the back seemed to do the trick.

The next thing in these videos is about a study I just watched out of Australia. Turns out that our phones and ipads are actually making us dumber. Like DEMENTIA dumber. Like LOSS OF BRAIN MATTER dumber. Yeah, it’s a real thing backed up with CT and MRI scans and everything. So if you feel stupider and more brain-foggy, turns out, it’s the phones. It’s the damn phones. Fortunately the cure is reading and writing, so if you haven’t yet got a journaling habit, now is the time.

I made for you a journal page template for your sewing – you can print these out for free and put them in a binder or notebook with hole punches and use that to sewing-journal. I tried to make them fairly “loose” with lots of room to sketch and paste little mockups of the line drawings (and color them in!).

So, go out there, sketch, read, be inspired online but get off your phone or ipad and DO some stuff! Turns out it’s better for our brains. Sewing is too, but we already knew that 😉
