Unpacking the fall capes and wraps – fall in love with fashion all over again

It’s that time of year again. I’m off to the basement to bring up bags of sweaters, unpack my capes from the back of the closet and relish in fashion’s most fun time of year. Every year I wonder where a few items went (the cobalt blue cashmere ‘tee’ from Lands end?) but they turn up eventually. Every year I vow to clean things out – and I must have last year, since the sweater bag swap took ten minutes (in went the tube tops and gauzy garments, out came the wool and cashmere).

When I do this process, I’m always amazed at the power of ‘put away’ is to equal ‘new’. I should do this with my children’s toys like they do at day care and Montessori.

My must-buy item this fall is a pair of colored skinny jeans or cords. I have cords (somewhere, again, another oddly missing item) in teal, brown, black and cream, but again, three of the four are missing. My favorite items to wear this fall will be bright green Minnetonka moccasins with my skinnies and a capelet. Or maybe it’s the colored cords with suede ballet flats and a belted plaid jacket with a big scarf. Or maybe it’s the wool georgette maxi pleated skirt with a concert tee and a leather jacket. Or maybe yet it’s the butter-soft midi leather skirt with tall boots and a cashmere jacket. Where’d I shop this season? My closet!
