Spring Mini Capsule Wardrobe to Sew

Looking to jumpstart sewing for a new season? Here’s a spring mini capsule wardrobe to sew in sizes 12-16.

I’ve pulled up a winter project that didn’t get done into spring – the Pio Pants by Ready to Sew (French designer.) These are casual, elastic waist, front seamed pants that I’ve seen all over RTW (Target, JCrew) and I’m going to love these. They have slim legs you can roll, or even add hem elastic for a jogger look. They have a full elastic waist and I’ll add a faux drawstring to recreate a look. I have them cut in cream cotton twill, but also have coral babywale corduroy too.

Do you feel bad if you cut patterns and haven’t sewed them yet? Don’t! Don’t cut too far ahead though, but do accept that sometimes things get in the way – I’ll wear these pants in the spring, on cool late summer nights and into the fall next year.

The second project is a pair of wide leg, back-elastic “tailored” trouser pants, the Rose from Made By Rae. The wide leg trouser is baaaaack, baby, and I prefer soft pants to hard pants, so these fit the bill perfectly. I’ll sew them in a brilliant coral linen and wear them with my next spring project, the black and white striped Breton tee.

Back in digital download after a long hiatus out of stock, this tee has a TRUE classic Breton neckline – and it’s not like any other neckline you’ve sewn. Snap this one up because it might not be around forever. I’ve waxed poetic about it even when it was out of print. But it’s back! I liked it so much I actually bought the digital pattern in addition to my original printed one, just in case. And I store the digital ones in the cloud too.

The fourth and final project is a cropped (ish) boxy top in a silk(y) print fabric to go with the pants. I’ll be using the Sew News Antero Shell for this. I’ve made this top twice, in a cotton print and in a metallic linen. I might add a waistline casing and side drawstrings to cinch this up to an actual cropped top, since both the pants are high-waisted. I also will round the neckline (and create a round facing) as an option – still deciding on this adjustment.

In the video, I show you the fabrics I’ll be sewing and how they drape/coordinate. I’ll also share a few of the other things I’ve sewn that I’ll wear with this mini capsule wardrobe. Four pieces is about four weeks to six weeks of sewing which will take me through late May. I can sew a garment a week in 15-30 minute increments. Most of these are easy to VERY easy projects, because, well, SewParadise is all about the fast-to-sew fashion!

I’ll wear all of these under a long chunky cardigan (LandsEnd Canvas, thrifted via Poshmark), the Cambria Duster I sewed here, and an oversized jacket like the Wiksten Unfolding here or a quilted Hovea jacket in navy.
